Endodontics

Endodontics deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp and periapical tissues. Root canal therapy is one of the most common procedures.

This includes a variety of procedures including root canal therapy, endodontic retreatment, surgery, treating cracked teeth, and treating dental trauma. If the pulp (containing nerves, arterioles, venules, lymphatic tissue, and fibrous tissue) becomes diseased or injured, endodontic treatment is required to save the tooth.

The goal of endodontic treatment is to change the internally infected tooth to an inert viable state so that it may continue to function as an integrated unit in the overall masticatory apparatus.
